Kitching Peak, Snow Peak

2 November 1991

By: Patty Kline

Leaders: Frank Goodykoontz, Patty Kline

It was a beautiful weekend. We met at the Kitching roadhead at 9:15 am. The three of us who drove out in the morning "barely made it" (an expression of Frank's) because a horse trailer broke down and blocked the road for an hour. The last 1/4 mile the road was too rough for passenger cars.

Kitching was a lot of fun going through a mixed forest. We had lunch on the top. This is trail all the way and one of the most bug filled trails on the list. At 6598', Kitching is a 2,500' gain and 10 mile roundtrip.

Saturday night, we had a relaxing time around a campfire at the Kitching roadhead. I served salad for all and Tom Sakowych prepared his delicious chicken soup recipe for everyone. Betty and Austin Stirratt livened up the group with tales of their families.

Sunday morning, we left at 8 am for the Snow roadhead, about 1/2 hour away. This trail had recently been clipped by the rangers, so we had a nice path to follow. About 1/4 mile from the top, we cut off the trail to go cross-country to the top where we had lunch. Snow at 7928' was 3600' of gain and 8 miles roundtrip. The beautiful and majestic views of Bighorn and Dragon's Head were impressive from the top of Snow. By the time you get this Lookout, you will know if they were added to the list or not. I certainly hope they were.

Those participating in this laid back and fun weekend were Tom Sakowych, Betty and Austin Stirratt, Pete Doggett, and Georgina Burns.
